이번 강의에서는 Off, Out, Away에 대해서 배웠습니다. 하나하나를 보면 분명히 이해되는 데, 확실히 여러개를 함께 보니 음...조금 헷갈리기는 하네요. 그래도 여러가지 예문을 사용해서 강의를 해주셔서, 훨씬 쉽게 이해할 수 있었습니다. ★ Off는 Of와 공간적인 개념은 비슷하지만, 의미는 반대다. 본체에서 떨어져 나가는 느낌. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gerald was off in the distance. 제럴드의 존재와 상태는 저 멀리 떨어져 있었다. Marlin bounced off Dory and landed on the ocean floor. Dory took her eyes off the road. Dory took the tag off and handed it to Hank. Gerald! Get off the rock! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 정확히 보면 위의 모든 문장에서 off가 전치사로 사용된 것은 아님. 부사도 있고, 형용사로도 사용됨. 그런데 품사를 구분하는 게 중요한 것이 아니고, 알아두면 됨. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marlin swam off. Nemo jumped off. All the jet streams shut off. Marlin started off and Dory followed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ★ Out Dory gazed out into the hallway. Dory headed out toward the open water. call out 외치다, 크게 부르다. cry out 외치다, 비명을 지르다. look out 조심해라 = watch out find out 알아내다, 찾아내다. figure out 생각해내다, 이해하다. point out 지적하다, 언급하다. reach out 뻗다, 접근하다. stick out 뻗다, 툭 튀어나오다. Ouf은 of와의 조합으로 많이 사용됨. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dory swam out of her cave. Hank came out of his camouflage. Becky was out of earshot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 부사 away (그런데 쓰임이 전치사랑 매우 비슷하다.) 기본 개념은 두 개의 물체가 붙어있다가 멀어져 가는 개념. 이동의 개념이 있어서 동사랑 특성이 잘 맞는다. You have to stay away from the undertow! Marlin and Dory swam away together. Hurt, Dory back away. Dory flicked Hank away. 멀어지는 느낌이 off랑 비슷함. Marlin cut him off. Son, son, son...he whispered, trying to scout Nemo away. Hank's voice trailed off. = Hank's voice trailed away 목소리가 잦아들었다. 조용해지다.
